Despite the word “disorder”, PTSD is actually a normal human response to abnormal events.

You experienced or witnessed something that was terrifying and shocking, It could have been an assault or attack, a natural disaster or an accident. This stressful, traumatic event my have felt life threatening. You could have been were severely injured, or you saw a violent injury or death.

Trauma overwhelms our sense of control, connection and meaning.

Perhaps you were involved in a car accident. Now you find yourself nervous whenever you have to drive and will go out of your way to avoid being near where it happened.

Perhaps you witnessed something that you still can’t unsee. Occasionally, you still have nightmares about it.  

Perhaps you experienced a catastrophic medical event. Even though the doctor has given you the “all clear,” you just don’t feel like yourself anymore.

Perhaps you were raped, assaulted or the victim of a violent crime. Now you find yourself feeling fragile and vulnerable, afraid of connection.
